about tga

tall glass architecture specializes in breathing new life into the spaces that we inhabit.  Sometimes a small design move can have a huge impact; other times it requires a more grand gesture.  The common thread from project to project is a clear understanding of the client’s needs and of the existing context.

tall glass architecture is a full service architectural firm, which means that we see the project through to the finishing touches.   We guide our clients through the permitting process and can assist with selecting the right contractor.  Let’s face it, developing the initial design may be the most fun for clients and architects alike, but the construction period poses numerous decisions that need to be made correctly in order for the original design to come to fruition.   Our involvement ensures a high quality product and, most importantly, gives our clients peace of mind during a potentially stressful time.

jackie mckay detamore founded tall glass architecture after several years working at firms in the San Francisco Bay Area.  She received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from UC Berkeley and a Master of Architecture from the NewSchool of Architecture + Design in San Diego.  Earning her professional license and LEED accreditation, she turned her sights toward taking on her own projects in 2007.

Why “tall glass?”

There’s a charming old saying to describe someone who catches your eye due to his or her attractiveness, composure and grace: “S/he’s a tall glass of water.”  Sometimes it’s *drink of water, but I am obviously partial to the former.

There is a real down-home appeal to this saying. The imagery it suggests is simple, calm and clear.  It captures the realization of when something is just right.  It’s classically beautiful without gimmicks or flash.  These are all of the characteristics that we aim to bring out of every project designed at tall glass architecture.
